modern acoustic modem • encrypted by default

Send encrypted payloads through the air with a cleaner, faster, more resilient interface.

This refreshed build adds a modern glass UI, link profiles for robust / balanced / fast / stealth transfer, auto-tuned defaults for phones and desktops, cleaner receive constraints, repeated burst transmission for reliability, and richer operator feedback while keeping your original AES‑GCM + FSK workflow intact.

Profiles Robust / Balanced / Fast / Stealth
Security AES‑GCM authenticated
Redundancy burst repeats
Primary tones 1350 / 2150 Hz Swaps live with selected link profile.
Recommended speed 40 ms Auto-tuned from device + profile heuristics.
Transmission mode Balanced Default for general reliability and speed.
Receiver pipeline Cleaner input Optional processing reduction for better decode odds.
Transmit Compose, encrypt, preview, and broadcast acoustic frames.
Idle
Robust profile default: 40 ms.
Repeats improve reliability when rooms are noisy.
Short silent pause between repeated packets.
Tip: Balanced mode works best for most devices. Robust mode gives the receiver a larger safety margin, while Stealth mode may fail on some speakers and microphones.
Receive Listen, lock onto the carrier, validate, and decrypt.
Standby
Reduced processing usually helps modem-style decoding.
Mic idle

Operator note: Start listening before transmitting. For tricky rooms, use Robust mode, keep volume high, and place devices roughly 0.5–1.5 meters apart.

About Air Handoff Modern

Air Handoff Modern is a browser-based acoustic transfer tool that lets two devices exchange encrypted text payloads over speaker and microphone using tone-based signaling. It is designed for quick offline handoff experiments, air-gap style relay workflows, and privacy-focused demos without requiring a traditional network connection during transfer.

How this app works

The app prepares a message, encrypts and authenticates it, converts the frame into audio tones, and sends repeated bursts through the air for better reliability. On the receiving side, the app listens through the microphone, detects the expected tones, reconstructs the frame, validates it, and decrypts it with the matching passphrase. Profile modes help tune speed and resilience for different devices and environments.

What changed in this version

Modernized visual system, more legible spacing, profile-driven frequencies, repeat bursts for retransmission, cleaner mic constraints, live recommendations, and stronger affordances for phone-to-phone use.

Recommended operating procedure

Use Balanced first. If decode fails, switch both sides to Robust, increase the bit duration, and keep environmental audio processing reduced. Stealth is intentionally experimental and may not work on every device.
